The Birth of a New Super Hero

Coming out in a few months, barring no major snafus, will be my first children's book/comic book series, tentatively called "I'm a Super Hero Now."  I've had some sticker shock in terms of illustration costs, and that immediately led me to wish I had developed my basic artistic talents outside of the pen long ago.

I can see how there may be dozens of stories out there, sitting unpublished not for lack of quality or appeal, and not even because of costs to publish, but simply because of the costs to effectively illustrate and enhance the story, whatever that may be.  I'd be interested to hear how others may have found ways to offset these costs without the book looking like it was drawn by my dog.  Which actually might not be a bad idea.

The Root of All Fun :: Children's Books

I'd love to hear from folks who have written a children's book (not necessarily published).  How did it come to your head and then on paper? One sitting, many? Was it inspired by a person or situation in your life personally?

What were some of the key elements in writing the book that you felt would be important to a child?

Memories and Memoirs

Take a moment to think about the memories of your life, how you say "I could write a book about this" or that or someone or some feeling.  The thing is, you can do this so easily, but proper presentation with a tenderhearted editor is critical to ensure your voice and message is accurately heard.

If you had such a person to encourage and guide you, would you be more inclined to write?  Even a conglomeration of many thoughts can make for a good story.  Perhaps you right in poetic format - why not put it in a book with inspiring -- or funny! -- art and photographs? I read those books all the time, any time.

So why haven't I written one? Probably for the same reason many of you haven't.  I didn't think it would be good enough, important enough, taken seriously, or would take too much effort.  I am wrong. And I'm about to change that story for myself personally.  How 'bout you?  Will you take that step?  And why or why not?

No Goofs :: The Beginning

Today is the first day of our No Goofs blog, a blog to inspire writers to seek editors for style and content affirmation and to encourage the bond that must be created between the two for an efficient exchange.

Writers might also look to editors as coaches in general as they develop a plot or a character.  The idea of two heads are better than one can hardly be better demonstrated than in the case of an Author/Editor team.

The ultimate goal for us is to be a better editor for you.
